Every good Whovian is clenching their buttocks in excitement at the upcoming Doctor Who 50th Anniversary (November 23rd 2013), when geektastic parties will be going on all over the world. You can check out where you can catch it on the official Doctor Who website. Pretty excited having watched it the whole of my life, I still clearly remember being terrified by the Malus in The Awakening (Peter Davidson).
I had a dig around to see what’s out there as far as Who related gifts and party paraphernalia, and was blown away by the MASSIVE HOARD OF STUFF you can purchase. Far too much to list, but for those in a hurry here’s some bits and pieces.
I adore this Who/Sherlock crossover art, both for it’s simplicity and because it’s just a beautiful piece of work. We bought a copy for friends for Christmas last year and nearly didn’t hand it over. There’s every chance I’ll end up buying a copy for myself at some point.

How about a Tardis, Butterfly and Alice In Wonderland antique book print. I love these, and there’s a whole bunch of them available. Beautiful illustrations printed onto pages taken from antique dictionaries. The books used are salvaged and would otherwise be destroyed.

Is it Winter yet? It’s definitely Autumn, so how about a blue cotton scarf with a Tardis and star design. It’s silkscreened and vegan friendly, if that helps? There’s also a tie available.

Handmade tentacled plush more your thing? How about an 8″ yarn Ood? Unfortunately they only ship to the US. There’s also a matching Adipose, Weeping Angel, a couple of Doctors and some Firefly coolness.

There’s a considerable selection of Dalek hats out there but this is the most awesome (in my considered opinion). Complete with eyestalk and the little pointy bits. Available in an assortment of colours. From the seller: “Hats are constructed of pure dalekanium, as well as sturdy acrylic yarn, and stuffed with a mutated Kaled as well as bits of yarn and a dowel to keep the eyestalk straight. Spot clean only.”

Well obviously, the 50th Anniversary DVD. It’s not available until December the 2nd, but you’re going to want to watch it again on Christmas day aren’t you? There’s some moderately entertaining bickering going on in the Amazon reviews.

Need to distract a small child (over the age of three) for a while but without ruining the sci-fi mood? Deploy the talking plush Dalek. You can guess at the phrases yourself.

Ready for your viewing party? Got your drinks ready? Worried about scratching your best coffee table (who even has a ‘best’ coffee table?) Get some Cyberman, Adipose or K9 cork coasters. There’s also a Batman logo set and a frankly awesome Autobot set.

Get in the mood to hide behind the sofa (do people still do that?), turn off the lights and spark up a nice scented Tardis candle in either “Cashmere; A warm, herbal musky fragrance with a light musk base woven with notes of muget, sandalwood, creamy vanilla and patchouli, with top notes of mandarin and lime to create a sophisticated blend.” or “Autumn blend: Nice fall blend of orange, grapefruit, and clove.”.

I never quite got the point of Wine Glass Charms, but then I don’t drink wine. They look pretty though and people seem to make use of them. These look really good (and shiny which is always important), you get a set of 10 different phrases and designs with custom orders available.

Sonic screwdrivers are pretty ubiquitous these days (my local supermarket stocks them), so I wasn’t going to include one, but this one’s a toothbrush! A. vibrating. sonic. screwdriver. toothbrush. You can clean your teeth with the Doctor’s multitool. What next, Tardis pint glasses?
Sonic Screwdriver Electric Toothbrush
Actually, yes. Exactly that, etched Tardis pint glasses. Make up your own Who based drinking game (take a sip every time Matt Smith says ‘Timey Wimey’). Combine with the Cyberman coasters for a truly geeky booze-fest.

Following on with the party theme, get yourself some Dalek and Tardis silicone ice cube trays. You don’t have to stick to making ice, you can use them to make your own chocolates (go on think of the geekiest flavour you can), jelly or some other tasty heart-attack inducing party food.

Sci-fi costume party to go to? Forgot to get a costume? DON’T PANIC (sorry, wrong show), you can go as eleven with this handy Fez and Bow Tie set. Bow tie’s are cool, right?

I am not a fan of the whole “Keep Calm and … ” thing but these are utterly awesome. ‘Keep Calm and Don’t Blink’ cuff links. Wear them somewhere formal or just clip them on your shirt and watch the Weeping Angels from the terrifying comfort of your own home (I wore some awesome Portal cufflinks for our wedding).

And finally, with Christmas just around the corner, brighten up your mantlepiece with a marvellous Tardis snow globe (it also lights up), stare into it’s depths and imagine the Doctor stepping out onto a snowy landscape and the adventures which would then ensue!<
